Supervise Yourself the Way You Supervise Your Staff

You would never accept a clinician who said: 'I do not need a treatment plan for this patient — I will just wing it.' Do not accept that standard for your own supervision practice. This tool asks you to assess your supervision honestly, set goals for how you want to develop, build measurable objectives, and track your growth — with the same clinical rigor you expect from the people you supervise.

The Recommendation

Start with the reading — especially the piece on checklist supervision. Be honest with yourself. Then complete the Supervisor Self-Assessment. Your lowest scores reveal where your staff need you most. Build 2-3 goals with specific objectives and real timeframes. Share your plan with a trusted peer, a mentor, or even with your staff. Supervisors who are transparent about their own growth model the exact behavior they want from clinicians.
